|“||When this started out, I was just some dude taking pills. I was just some guy destined with Arkn Blood, y'know, to be one of the ArknAngels, but now it turns out that was all a lie and my whole entire life was manipulated by The Dekn. I joined their side of people pulling my strings, and I regret every second of it. But you know what I learned along the way? You and me, our lives are meaningless, we're just going to go over and over again, dying, or betraying, or becoming monsters, or killers... I don't want that. I don't want to die, I don't want to become a puppet. I just want to be a hero. Deep inside yourself, don't you want to be a hero, too? That's all I wanted to be.||”|
— Michael's last words to Azrael.
Michael Knight is the titular main protagonist of Michael's Camera. He is initially thought to be an ArknAngel in Arkthology Act I, eventually becoming a rogue agent for the Dekn and trying and kill the other ArknAngels.
Little is known about Michael's early life. As a child, he was kidnapped by a branch of the M.E.E.C. and had the number 566 branded on his arm. The scientists took large amounts of blood samples in an attempt to take his Arkn blood; the process caused Michael severe mental damage, leaving him a bit unstable.
At some point, Michael befriended Alex Winter and Tobias Kestler; however, it is unknown when and how this happened. As a young man, he began seeing Dr. Ellis for therapy, and was put on a new medication. Michael obtained Ellpagg's camera at some point, and began using it for his YouTube channel.
The First Guardian
The first few videos on the channel are very odd and seemingly ambiguous to Michael (and are strongly hinted to belong to an alternate version of Michael himself). However, as far as he seems to know, his first official video was My video, where he attempts to start up a dream vlog. He mentions the camera he obtained, and comments on the strange video on the camera (which seems to show The Knight in the Infernous). He also intends to film his "haunted" house.
Throughout his sleep logs, Michael reacts to things that aren't shown on camera. Michael meets with a fellow patient of Ellis named Marty Taylor, who tells Michael about the Arkn and Dekn. He explains that Michael would normally have a guardian Arkn, but that his Arkn has been "taken" from him; as such, Dr. Ellis's medicine he's taken has given Michael a new, artificial guardian: a Dekn. He also tells Michael that even though he's part of the "game", he has free will and is capable of changing things.
Due to his medication, Michael begins undergoing .relapses, during which he sees through the eyes of other versions of himself (including The Knight, who is hinted for the first time to be his guardian Arkn). He hears of someone named "Gabriel" and The Guilted One, and briefly sees through the eyes of Persophelus Redgrave. He also is able to see the original videos on his channel, which he recognizes as belonging to yet another alternate Michael.
In time, Michael is met with Redgrave as his artificial guardian. Redgrave takes over Michael, preventing him from saving a neighborhood girl from a rogue Sethe called The Condor. He informs Michael that he's going to need to find the other ArknAngels and kill them, before departing. Due to this event, Michael is presumed to be a suspect in his neighbor's disappearance and arrested. Eventually, Redgrave abandons Michael to avoid risk of The Debigrath Effect. Shortly after this, Ellpagg appears out of nowhere and shoves Michael into another timeline.
The Second Guardian
Michael is officially introduced to Ellpagg, his guardian Arkn, who has recently escaped from the Infernous. Ellpagg acts as an abusive guardian to Michael, forcing him into deadly situations and beating him for his mistakes. Due to this mistreatment, Michael begins aligning himself with the Dekn; following Redgrave's instructions, he sets out to kill Gabriel Holden (one of the destined ArknAngels) and to hunt down the others in an effort to prove to the Arkn that he is no longer on their side.
Rogue Agent of the Dekn
During the event of May 15th, Michael summons a golden knife, which he uses to kill The Condor. Michael then uses the knife to tear into .reality, allowing him access to another timeline. He has a run-in with The Carver, who threatens to subject him to various cheese-related torments. Before The Carver can act, however, Michael is taken over by Azrael. Azrael mocks The Carver, proclaiming himself to be a "Fallen Hethe" before shooting The Carver in the head, sending him back to the Infernous.
As .Reality begins to crash, Michael enters Gabriel's timeline and attempts to shoot him. However, with Gabriel's Arkn powers growing, he manages to overpower Michael. Azrael once again takes Michael's place (pretending to still be Michael), and convinces Gabriel to accept Raziel and his destiny as an ArknAngel before leaving. The timelines collapse, and .Reality reboots. Michael, however, manages to survive.
The Third Guardian
Three months later, Michael has made a new home in a pocket between timelines, and is still searching for the other ArknAngels. Due to Ellpagg's absence, Michael obtains Persophelus Crow as a Guardian. On Crow's orders, Michael attempts to trap an Arkn in his doll, Dale. The attempt fails, and Michael accidentally summons a (rather annoying) prophet named Cecil Xeneth.
A short time later, Ellpagg comes out of nowhere and sends Michael on a .Relapse (claiming he needs to move him to another timeline). This causing him to be dazed and confused as he runs right into The Hooks Killer and is attacked. Dying from his injuries, Michael wakes up in the Infernous with The Carver, who makes a deal with him: in exchange for becoming Michael's Guardian (and escaping the Infernous with him), Carver will help Michael kill Cecil and take over Arkassia. Upon making the deal, The Carver betrays Michael, seemingly leaving him in The Infernous to be tormented.
Azrael appears and tries to break Michael out, properly introducing himself as an ArknAngel (and an alternate version of Michael). Upon leaving The Infernous, Michael is suddenly possessed by The Carver (having apparently hitched a ride out of the Infernous), who reveals that Michael was never a true ArknAngel and won't be involved in the War. Upon learning this, Michael is distraught.
Ellpagg and Azrael, his underling, find out that Michael is the Carver's Nephilim son, and that Carver had manipulated them into thinking he was an ArknAngel the entire time. Ellpagg releases a shard of Malek; Malek takes possession of Ellpagg (who is momentarily using Azrael as a Shade), and goes off and fight the now Carver-controlled Michael. Carver escapes, however, and Azrael stays behind in .Reality, taking up Michael's camera.
One Last Chance To Do Something Good
While Michael is briefly freed from being The Carver's vessel, he recalls the burning pain of being taken over; he recalls the last few months being like years, and not being able to remember his crimes as a vessel. Unsure of where any of his old acquaintances are, he goes on about hearing voices in his head. Revealing that these voices are the Hethe themselves, Michael says that "they're coming". He then goes on about one of them being named "De'ebo", and claims that "he's" been here for eons. He then realizes who Deebo truly is.
In the meantime, Azrael (who has become trapped in the Infernous himself while rescuing Tobias) is tortured and branded by The Carver, now revealed to have been "Deebo" this entire time. Carver informs Azrael that the next time he sees him, he'll be using a different vessel. Carver leaves Azrael alone in the Garage room of the Infernous, and Michael (who wants "one last chance to do something good" enters, ranting about wanting to be a hero. Hoping to encourage Azrael, Michael asks him if he wants to be a hero as well. Azrael, (mistakenly believing Michael to be The Carver, shoots him in the face with his revolver and kills him, destroying his soul and wiping him out of existence.
Due to being killed by Azrael's revolver in the Infernous, Michael's data is completely obliterated, leaving him no chance of his being resurrected. After this incident, Azrael is deeply haunted by his actions and filled with guilt over Michael's death -- so much that he becomes trapped in the Infernous, where his guilt and sorrow manifest as a ghostly entity in a rabbit mask (named "Spooky Michael", after an incarnation he encountered in the infernous) who attacks him.
In Universe E, due to the events of The Knight Shift never happening, Michael is never targeted by the Persophelums. He never receives Ellpagg as a Guardian, and isn't taken as The Carver's vessel. As such, he is able to grow up and live a relatively normal life with his friends (albeit with some mental health issues).
Trivia & Notes
- The early videos on Michael's channel show an alternate version of Michael, whom Michael replaced via The Debigrath Effect.
- While he is The Carver's son and vessel, Michael is also Ellpagg's guarded human. Apparently, this is due to The Carver having a hand in the creation of both Ellpagg and Michael (with Michael being genetically the closest to Ellpagg).
